Directions to the Cottage Retreat
There aren't a lot of ways to get to Door County: it's a penninsula. Just drive north along the Wisconsin Lake-Michigan shoreline, and you'll wind up in Door County.
Whether you drive into Door County on State Highway 57 or 42, or enter by way of any of the scenic countryside byways, you'll pass through the city of Sturgeon Bay.
On the north-east side of Sturgeon Bay, stay on Highway 42 (which goes up the Green Bay side of the county). About fourteen miles after leaving Sturgeon Bay and just before entering the town of Egg Harbor, turn right on County Highway T at the bottom of the hill (watch for "The Cottage Retreat" road sign).
Stay on T as it winds around for about one mile, and you'll be at the Cottage Retreat.
Make The Cottage Retreat your center of operations for your next Door County adventure.

The Lodge

The Lodge accommodates up to 20 people (plus pets)
- Five bedrooms and a loft
- Four bathrooms, two living rooms, and a full kitchen
- Fully stocked kitchen (dishes, utensils, pots & pans)
- CD player and Satallite TV with DVD & VCR
- Two whirlpool tubs
- Fire pit, patio, deck, and charcoal BBQ grill
Finally, a comfortable accommodation for a large group of people is available in Door County. The Lodge is a deluxe 4,000 square foot cabin in the town of Egg Harbor. We designed this rental so that a group of up to 20 people (and pets) can have comfortable lodging in Door County.
Construction was completed in the spring of 2002. Since then, the Lodge has hosted parties, family reunions, business meetings and multi-group vacations. One of the nice features of this log cabin is the amount of sunlight that comes in through over 50 windows and 4 large sky lights. When combined with the radiant floor heating, a person can even feel cozy on a cold winter day.
The lodge consists of 2 main floors and a loft. The loft has 2 sleeping wings, each with a queen-size bed. There are also 2 master bedrooms on the main floor, each with king-size beds and a whirlpool hot tub. And one of the bedrooms also has a balcony.
The main floor includes a living room, a full kitchen (which has table settings for 20), and a sunroom that leads out to the deck.
Elise & Elena

Elise & Elena each accommodate up to 6 people (plus pets)
- 2 bedrooms (king-size & queen-size beds) & self-inflating queen-size air mattress bed
- 2 bathrooms
- Fully stocked kitchen with dishwasher (dishes, utensils, pots & pans)
- HEPA air-to-air exchange system
- Radiant floor heating, air conditioning
- 54" x 76" whirlpool bathtup
- CD player and Satallite TV with DVD & VCR
- Fire pit, patio, and charcoal BBQ grill
Embeded into the side of a hill — overlooking a Door-Couty farmscape — these semi-underground, earth-home energy-efficient cottages offer a unique vacation experience.
Remain comfortable within the HEPA air-to-air exchange air conditioning over radiant floor heating systems and relax before a good old-fashioned blaze in the fireplace or unwind within a whirlpool bath while listening to your favorite music on the surround-sound CD system or watching your favorite movie on DVD, VCR or satallite TV.
Floor-to-ceiling windows in each of the Elise and Elena units offer breathaking sunsets over the 200-acre Sugar Bush farm. All-wooden interiors and cathedral ceilings help make these deluxe cottages a great place to stay for short or long-term vacations.
The Vista

The Vista accommodates up to 10 people (plus pets)
- Three bedrooms (one with a king-size bed & 2 with queen-size beds)
- Self-inflating queen-size air mattresses available for additional occupants
- Fully stocked kitchen with dishwasher (dishes, utensils, pots & pans)
- Washer & dryer
- CD player and Satallite TV with DVD & VCR
- Wood burning fireplace with glass doors
- Glassed-in whirlpool room overlooking the grounds
- Fire pit, patio, deck, and charcoal BBQ grill
This two story structure is built into the side of a hill to provide easy access to the large deck. Whether you are BBQing on the lawn, sitting around the fire pit, relaxing on the deck, or sitting comfortably behind the large picture windows, the Vista provides a beautiful Door County panorama.
"I looked over the top of the hill and thought, This is a great view! It wasn't too much later when I started to make plans to build the Vista as a rental home" (Dale Laviolette).
The construction was finally completed in 1986, and the Vista has been delighting groups of people ever since.
When you arrive at The Cottage Retreat and pull into the Vista parking area, you will walk directly onto the deck that overlooks a large area with trees in all directions. You will also be able to see the Sugar Bush Farm off in the distance. Depending on what season you are in, this can be a very interesting and beautiful view.
Another great feature of the Vista is that there are many large windows in the uper level. So, you can enjoy the living/dining/kitchen area while experiencing the view.
You will also be able to see over the yard that is yours to enjoy. We have planted some nice flower beds, and there is a water feature, as well. This yard also has some nice benches, a fire pit and a BBQ area. This premier rental home could be the perfect place for your group to stay while in Door County
And, remember, pets are welcome at the Cottage Retreat!
The Fieldstone

The Fieldstone accommodates up to 6 people (plus pets)
- 2 bedrooms (king-size & queen-size beds) & a self-inflating queen-size air mattress
- 1 bathroom with a whirlpool tub, outdoor sauna
- Fully stocked kitchen (dishes, utensils, pots & pans)
- CD player and Satallite TV with DVD & VCR
- Living room/Dining room with a wood burning stove with glass doors
- Fire pit, patio, deck, and charcoal BBQ grill
The Cottage Retreat is built on a 14 acre piece of property. The Fieldstone was the first cottage built.
"Before, during, and after clearing the area where this cozy cottage now stands, I spent a great deal of time collecting limestone fieldstones that littered the property and were in the old stone fences that still mark some of the boundaries, and used them to build the Fieldstone" (Dale Laviolette).
This quaint cottage is accented by antique door and light fixtures, interior stone walls, slate, oak woodwork, carpeted floors, and a cathedral ceiling.
When you pull in to park your vehicle(s), you will see a stone path that leads away. Follow the path and you will pass between the sauna and the side of the Fieldstone.
"I have spent plenty of time at the Fieldstone just getting away from it all . As a result, I have many fond memories of 'the little cabin in the woods.' I am proud to offer some of those same opportunities for you to enjoy the area as I have. And I hope that you can take home more than just a few memories of your own."
The Lincoln
The Lincoln accommodates up to 10 people (plus pets)
- 2 bedrooms and a loft (1 king-size & 2 queen-size beds)
- A loft with 2 self-inflating queen-size air mattresses
- 1 bathroom with a whirlpool tub
- Fully stocked kitchen (dishes, utensils, pots & pans)
- Radient floor heating
- CD player and TV with DVD and VCR
- Wood burning fireplace with glass doors
- Fire pit, patio, deck, and charcoal BBQ grill
When we built the Lincoln, we wanted to capture the warmth and charm of a log cabin in the woods, yet still provide a comfortable place for people to relax and unwind. "I think you will agree that this has been accomplished" (Dale Laviolette).
This 1,200 sq. ft. structure has vaulted ceilings which add an additional sense of spaciousness. Even so, we thought it would be a good idea to create an extra room where a person or couple could get away to read a book, enjoy the morning coffee, or simply watch the wildlife. So, we also built a sunroom. "I think you will find it quite relaxing."
Construction was completed in 1999, and people and pets have been enjoying the rental ever since.
Gretnas

Gretnas accommodates up to 10 people (plus pets)
- 3 bedrooms (1 king-size & 2 queen-size beds) and 2 self-inflating queen-size air mattresses
- 3 bathrooms and 1 multi-headed shower
- Fully stocked kitchen (dishes, utensils, pots & pans)
- Finnish-style sauna
- Radiant floor heating
- Closed-in porch
- CD player and Satallite TV with DVD & VCR
- Wood burning stove with glass doors
- Fire pit, patio, deck, and charcoal BBQ grill
We finished building the Gretna in 1998. Ever since then, people keep saying they just loved their stays, and I can't blame them. The Gretna is a 3-story home that is tucked back in the woods. The manner in which it is built allows for groups of people to be able to be together and also have space for private times. There is a sunken living room that has a wood burning stove with glass door. There is an eating area just off the full kitchen. A closed-in porch, a whirlpool tub, a sauna, and some of the trails around the property are just out the back door. There is a deck to walk out on, a balcony, a fire pit and a place to BBQ. "Heck, if I was on vacation, I would want to stay in a place like this (which is why I built it in the first place)" (Dale Laviolette).
